About Us

Ourtext is the trading name of John Harding. Its purpose is the creation and publication of chamber music repertoire, particularly for strings. Ourtext places a high value on musical quality and clarity of engraving. All music is printed to order on folded A3 100gsm paper and stapled.

Ourtext now also publishes the string chamber music formerly sold by Merton Music, following the retirement of its founder, Theo Wyatt. In incorporating this material Ourtext has made every effort, over several years, to raise its quality. Its legibility and accuracy have in very many cases been dramatically improved. However, some shortcomings in facsimiles of old editions are beyond practical remedy. If you find any of the material you receive from Ourtext to be unusable, please let us know and we will not hesitate to refund the purchase price.

The Merton Music repertoire included bulky piano parts, for which suitable binding equipment was not available. In some cases pages are stapled as a single booklet. In others the part was divided into a number of smaller fascicles. Neither method is ideal, but Ourtext has sought to minimise difficulties by ensuring an adequate central gutter and by maximising print size.

Ourtext respects copyright and makes every effort to ensure that it is not infringed. In a very few cases we have published copyright work where it was the clear wish of the composer that it should be published, and where efforts to trace the residual copyright holder have failed. If you have reason to believe that your rights have been infringed, please contact us, giving evidence of the basis of your claim, and we will respond accordingly.
