Lasting some nine minutes, it repeats the chorale melody over and over again, with constantly evolving detail in the other four parts. In this arrangement the chorale is distributed between three of the players, giving variety of voice, and bowing is calculated to vary texture. Technical demands are not high, and the work richly rewards thought given to interpretation. see sample score
